10 things to remember at your work Christmas party

  1. Even though your Christmas do might be out of office hours, you are still representing your company. Which means all your companies policies and procedures will still be in place.
  2. If you’re lucky enough that your company are picking up the bill, go easy. Of course it’s tempting to go mad but you don’t want to be the talk of the office for the next week (or year!).
  3. We’ve all been there, drinking on an empty stomach is bad news. If food isn’t provided, eat before you go.
  4. Stay with other people, don’t put yourself in the position of being worse for wear and alone, and therefore vulnerable.
  5. Make sure you know how you are getting home, arrange to share lifts with other colleagues and book your transport in advance.
  6. Look out for work colleagues. If you think they might have got themselves into an awkward situation, or that they may be subject to some unwelcome attention, step in to divert the conversation or attention.
  7. The Secret Santa gift! You’ve pulled names out of the hat and you’re wondering what you can get to make them, and the team, laugh. Don’t cross the line, if you’re not sure they’ll respond well, don’t get it.
  8. Don’t let loose on social media. No one wants to see your pictures after a few drinks.
  9. The camera never lies, we all have devices that take selfies and photos, pictures can be online in seconds, don’t get caught out in an embarrassing situation.
  10. Maybe take a break from talking about work. Step away from the daily workload and have some fun.

Merry christmas!
